Danny Shepherd, Project Build Team Leader
Time at NIS: 18 years
I joined NIS in July 1997 as a Mechanical fitting apprentice within the project build department. My initial training was done at the purpose built training school at Springfields which was at the time part of the BNFL Company. On successful completion of my apprentice which took 3 ½ years to complete I joined NIS a Project Build team member where I was involved in the assembly and testing of specialist plant and machinery. As my skills grew I started to work on the installation of equipment in and around the UK.
After working within the project build department on site and within the workshop the opportunity arose for me to join a dedicated site installation team that was being created to fulfil the requirements of our customers. This involved working on client sites all over the world. We successfully completed projects within the UK and further afield such as Saudi Arabia, China, Singapore and Australia. During this time I also spent time working in our workshop and helping to train our up and coming apprentices. More recently I had an opportunity to bring my skills back into the workshop which worked well for me as I have recently become a dad. I now run the Project Build Department which also encompasses the mechanical installation of equipment. I oversee the mechanical assembly, testing and installation of equipment manufactured by NIS with a team of skilled men and apprentices.

Time at NIS: 16 years
I joined the company as an apprentice completing training to NVQ Level 3 at BNFL Springfields. I worked as an electrician at NIS until I was 19 years old then moved into the design office. In the design office I have been responsible for quotations, CAD design, software design, site installations and commissioning. The best part about working for NIS is the variety of projects that they undertake.
I have worked on projects in almost every industry from a microwave oven producing crust-less bread to five HGV scanning X-ray machines. I have also had opportunities to travel to many different countries including China, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Belgium and America installing and commissioning machines as well as managing teams of installers.NIS has always supported me and encouraged my personal development by allowing me to do a day-release degree as well as numerous training courses.
