“We are passionate about the safety of our people, our environment, our communities and our industries. There is nothing more important to us than the safety of all our people in all that they do”.

Richard Penrose, Managing Director and Director Responsible for Safety

Health and Safety

We take the management of Health, Safety and Environmental standards extremely seriously and strive to ensure they are both ingrained within our culture and paramount in all of our activities.  Our Integrated Management System includes a comprehensive suite of health and Safety policies and procedures and is fully accredited to OHSAS 18001:2007.

We are committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees and are proud to have been awarded the ROSPA Gold award annually since 2006.

Risk management is a high priority at NIS and risk assessments are carried out at various stages of the project lifecycle. NIS have NEBOSH qualified staff who carry out risk assessments and ensure measures are put in place to mitigate against, and control, risks arising.

Health and Safety Policy

Environmental Standards

NIS are totally committed to the care of the environment and this goal is achieved at all levels through the operation of an integrated management system which is appropriate to the nature, scale and environmental impact of our activities, our products and services, in line with BS EN ISO 14001:2004. It is maintained by a series of internal audits, management review and independent external audits.

Environmental Policy

Quality

NIS are committed to providing clients with a first class engineering service through effective teamwork, quality procedures and a long-term commitment to continuous improvement. The NIS integrated Management System is accredited to IS0 9001:2008 and is subject to regular management review to ensure its continued effectiveness.  We are also accredited with EN ISO 3834 and EN 1090 Execution Class 3 the European standard which regulate the fabrication and assembly of steel and aluminium structures.

A quality assurance programme and quality plans specific to the design, manufacture, testing and installation will be prepared at the commencement of all projects.

Quality Policy

Security

We recognise our responsibility to ensure all company, client and national secrets, of which we are exposed to in our line of work, are duly protected.

As you would expect from our years of experience working within the nuclear industry we have a well-established security system, and place contractual obligations on all of our employees to ensure it is upheld.

Ethics

The NIS organisation is defined by the manner in which it delivers its services. Our Code of Ethics describes the principles by which we commit to maintain high ethical standards and to behave with integrity to ensure we create and sustain stakeholder confidence with our; Customers, Employees, Suppliers, Shareholder, Communities.

Social Impact

NIS takes the responsibility for our people and the environments, communities and industries in which they live and work, extremely seriously. We acknowledge that these are shared responsibilities and involve employees at all levels of the organisation.

Helping to develop an interest in engineering amongst young people, particularly in the local communities, is something that is strongly ingrained in our values. Our trained Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) ambassadors provide active support to events across Lancashire, Cumbria and Berkshire.

Our Industries

In order for the industries that we serve to thrive, they must be supported by suitably qualified and experienced individuals whose knowledge of technologies is continually refreshed. We actively encourage membership of professional institutions, foster and share innovation, and support relevant skills development programmes that are critical to the long term sustainability of our industry sectors.

Our People

Our aim is to be the employer of choice within the communities in which we operate. To do this we recognise all of our employees as individuals; treat them with respect and ensure they have a safe and rewarding working environment. We provide competent management, whose actions are just, ethical and supportive of employees’ family obligations, and promote a workplace where achievements are recognised and rewarded, and communications are inclusive.

Our Environment

In alignment with our Environmental Policy we continually strive to reduce our impact on the environment, to protect our natural resources and to ensure that environmental considerations are paramount in all our actions.

Our Community

NIS work in many different industry sectors in vastly differing areas of the UK. We recognise our responsibility to the communities that we operate in and ensure that we build relationships within the communities and contribute to their socio economic growth where possible. We source local labour wherever practicable and encourage our employees to always consider the needs of others and support local good causes through active involvement or charitable donations.
