Standards / Behaviours
Standard 1 - Leadership
Managers must be positive role models for safety and quality, setting and insisting on high standards. Their leadership ensures individuals understand what actions and behaviours are expected of them. Their support, guidance and encouragement enable the company to achieve its goals and targets. Leaders proactively address barriers, involve their teams in improvement activity and ensure safe and reliable operations.
Standard 2 - Maintaining Safe Conditions
Identification of hazards in the workplace ensures that the risks associated with the tasks we perform are removed or controlled. High standards of housekeeping are visible across the site and provide an excellent indication to our stakeholders that we are proud of where we work and are committed to safety and quality in everything we do.
Standard 3 - Workforce Committed to Safety
Everyone’s behaviour results in safe and reliable operations. Behaviours that contribute to excellence in safety performance are recognised and reinforced and employees can report safety concerns without fear of reprisal. Through monitoring and challenging unsafe acts and behaviours we can help each other to stay safe and prevent accidents.
Standard 4 - Achievement of Goals and Targets
Everyone understands the importance of achieving goals and targets safely and reliably. Personal responsibilities are clearly defined and understood at all levels. Work planning and prioritisation ensures activities remain focused on enabling the delivery of operations support and project deliverables to client requirements.
Standard 5 - Rules, Procedures and Instructions
All rules, procedures and instructions are clear, correct and unambiguous. The NIS QA system details the procedures to follow to maintain operations to BS EN ISO 9001, EN 14001 and BS OHSAS 18001 requirements. Permits to work, risk assessments and safe systems of work are all accessible in the workplace to ensure tasks are conducted safely. Deficiencies in the procedures are always reported and addressed. Amendments are made in line with procedure and procedural reviews involve the ‘doers’.
Standard 6 - Workforce Committed to Quality
Everyone understands the importance of delivering high quality goods and services that meet customer expectations. Our actions and behaviours demonstrate the pride we place in our work and the commitment we have for doing the job right first time. Regular self checking ensures timely action is taken to maintain quality standards and sustain customer confidence.
Standard 7 - Training and Development
All personnel receive appropriate training to equip them with the skills and knowledge they need to carry out their role correctly and safely. On the job assessment, competency development and coaching ensures the learning is effectively translated into the way we carry out tasks and activities in the workplace.
Standard 8 - Audit and Improvement
Everyone recognises the importance of audits as a means of identifying areas for improvement. Self audits are carried out routinely to allow us to check the quality of our own work and avoid error. Feedback from other employees, the customer and regulator audits are communicated in a timely manner to those affected and ensure we can learn from our past mistakes. All employees are encouraged to participate in the improvement process to enable audit actions to be closed out within agreed timescales.
Standard 9 - Support and Equipment
Task planning ensures the support and equipment required to complete the job correctly and safely is always available. Equipment stores are effectively controlled and maintained to ensure tools, equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for the job is available at the workplace and in good working order.
Standard 10 - Personal Conduct
People working for NIS behave in a professional manner and understand and abide by the rules and procedures that are required at their place of work.
Standard 11 - Working Together
Everybody recognises the value of sharing information and working together to achieve common goals. Information is communicated in a timely manner to ensure clear understanding of what is expected. Working together provides a positive working environment where individuals know that support is available when they require it.
