NIS make charity donations for Christmas

In keeping with the commitments we have made within our corporate social responsibility programme we will once again be donating the money that we historically spent on corporate Christmas cards and gifts to our chosen worthwhile causes.

We will be continuing to support the charities that serve the communities in which we operate and are delighted to have made a £500 donation to each of the following organisations.

Derian House, Chorley

When we were children, it always seemed the best stories of childhood began, "Once upon a time" and ended, "they all lived happily ever after". Sadly for the children of Derian House and their parents, the reality is somewhat different, and all too often, living happily ever after, is not to be. For the parents of a child diagnosed as terminally ill, there can be no long term future, ......the planning of their child's education, the milestones in their child's life....... for who knows what tomorrow, next week, next year may bring. For them there is sufficient challenge in coping with their child's illness from one day to the next. For them, their children's future is counted in smaller terms, sometimes in months or weeks, rather than years, in taking each day as it comes. For them, Derian House becomes an intrinsic part of that future.

Naomi House, Hampshire
www.naomihouse.org.uk
Naomi House children's hospice opened in June 1997 to provide respite care, terminal care and bereavement support for children and families from across the South of England. We provide care and support through good days, difficult days and last days to children, young people and their families from the counties of Berkshire, Dorset, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Surrey, West Sussex and Wiltshire. It costs over £2.5 million a year to provide and extend our service, and with just 10% of our funding coming from Government, we are dependent upon voluntary and charitable support.

Hospice at Home, West Cumbria
www.hospiceathomewestcumbria.org.uk

Hospice at Home, West Cumbria was set up in 1987. The concept of a "Hospice without walls" was completely new at that time. Nowhere else in the country had a hospice that was not centred in a building. But the founders of Hospice at Home, West Cumbria were adamant that to attempt to raise enough money in the West Cumbria area to build a hospice would take years and the people of West Cumbria would be deprived of hospice services during that time. The geographical area also made it difficult to find an accessible centre that would be convenient to everyone. National and local research had shown that given the choice the majority of people stated that they would prefer to be cared for at home. But this is not always possible without additional care and support.

The fund has been established for charitable purposes in connection with the relief of hardship within the county of Cumbria caused directly or indirectly by storm damage and flooding.
