The engineering services provided by the NIS Group include User Requirement Specifications, Conceptual Design / General Arrangements and Detail Design for manufacture.
During each phase of the design process, where possible, manufacturing and value engineering exercises are carried out to ensure cost effective manufacturing techniques are inherent within the design. We believe that the design for manufacture expertise that NIS possess will provide British Nuclear Group with the most efficient and value for money solution.
Manufacturing Capability
To maintain our commitment to quality, we have established substantial in-house production facilities capable of manufacturing, testing and developing special purpose plant and equipment for high technology industries and nuclear applications. The production activity is performed in 10,000m² of floor space that is configured to provide segregated working between stainless steel and carbon steel materials.
A wide range of fabrication plant and equipment is utilised including plasma profiling, guillotine, bending presses, rollers and pipe benders and welding equipment which includes spot, stud, MMA, MIG and TIG facilities. In addition to the fabricating and welding equipment, a well-equipped machine shop provides an essential in-house support service, which includes turning, milling, grinding, CNC machining and CNC turning centres.
A wide range of weld procedures are available, qualified in accordance with EN288 (BS 5750), some of which are dual qualified to ASME IX. Staff are qualified to BS 5500 Cert 1, EN287 (BS 5871), ASME IX and client standards including NF0081, Part 1 and 3 and AESS 6021. Fabrication staff are supported by qualified welding engineers, NDE personnel (including radiography) and test / development engineers. AOTC approval has been gained for a number of these procedures. Assembly & Testing
NIS can demonstrate many years of experience in the effective management of the supply chain and in managing complex engineering projects.
NIS has extensive trial and test facilities in Chorley where we have a dedicated 800 square metre high bay equipped with a 20 tonne crane (18 meters under the hook) in addition we have a test tower with a 10 tonne crane (20 metres under the hook) which can be used for assembly and testing, both of which are available for use where additional height is required.
Procurement
In support of our own in-house manufacturing capability, a dedicated procurement team provides extensive access to the UK and International supply chains, thereby ensuring optimum value for money whilst maintaining high levels of quality assurance through an ongoing process of supply chain evaluation and management.
NIS has local presence in Asia through two offices, one in India and one in China. They are both accountable for business development and procurement in their area.
